To create From Earth with Love, I used Roman Clay paints of ochre, potter’s clay, charcoal, and soft white. These colors reference the legendary cave paintings from Lascaux, France (15,000-17,000 years ago), which included over 600 paintings of animals, people, and other symbols. To make their marks on the wall, people climbed in claustrophobic dark caves while precariously wielding torches.
Humans have a compulsion to tell stories and to connect with the abstract, even if that means taking risks. My painting of the African Daisy blowing in the wind honors the creatives before me and will hopefully spark the next generation to leave their mark on the wall.
