Amateur Gardener is about my boyfriend taking up gardening and transforming our backyard from a dust bowl into a mini oasis. The African Daisy resiliently grows toward the sun and epitomizes the phrase “small but mighty”. As an ode to the tiny flower’s strength, I wanted to paint it large and with an electrifying color palette. Flowers are often depicted as soft and lovely, but they can also be tiny forces of nature, feeding on nitrogen and carbon and presenting brilliant colors to the world. Every morning when I open my shades I am greeted by a treat of intense magic.

This painting was featured on the cover of The Hawaii Bar Journal.
