Abalone’s non-aligned crystals make it strong and create the complex colors that captivate our eye. We are attracted to shiny materials like diamonds, gold, glass, and abalone because they subconsciously suggest water, which is critical for our survival. The shimmering pearlescent abalone shell reminds me of the splendor of the ocean and the quietness I feel when I’m surfing, gliding down a silver wave, blissfully immersed in ever-changing color.
